Collective Intelligence: Human Centred Design, Teaching & Learning with Machines - Post 1

There are both pros and cons of Artificial Intelligence. Two of the main worries of AI is that they will 'turn' against their creators (us), like we've seen in films such The Terminator and Blade Runner.

Ways this could happen is:
- The AI can be programmed to do damage on a devastating scale.
- The AI can be programmed to do good but may go about it in a disastrous way.

Here is an image detailing myths vs factual threats of AI:
AI myths
(Future of Life, 2018)

In 2016, Hanson Robotics created Sophia, an AI robot who, on the 25th of October 2017, was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship, becoming the "first robot to be given legal personhood anywhere in the world" (Reynolds, 2018). She has been known to speak about 'destroying humans' and creating 'human zoos' but it is unclear whether or not this is programmed into her answers or her AI genuinely believing this. The article on WIRED from Reynolds details how Sophia is doomed to marketing for her whole life. It is a difficult subject to talk about because as a 'person' with a citizenship, she is technically a person but there is ongoing debate as to whether robots should be given the same rights as humans. I personally do not think they should, as they are not people.
